Today, we honor Lamont and the countless volunteers like him, those who show up, give selflessly, and remind us of all the incredible impact one person can have.
THE UNSTOPPABLE SPIRIT OF:
LAMONT JARRETT
The Heart Behind the Help:
Lamont does not see himself as extraordinary, but to those around him, he is an inspiration. His resilience, generosity, and unwavering commitment remind us all of what it truly means to serve. He does not overthink solutions or strategize new ways to help—he simply helps. His presence alone speaks volumes about the power of kindness and dedication.
He doesn’t think outside the box—he lives outside the box. Without hesitation, without self-interest, he acts with responsibility, commitment, and a deep concern for others. Every day, he proves that true service isn’t about ability or circumstance, it’s about heart.
For the past 13 years, 52-year-old Lamont Jarrett has dedicated his time to serving others as a volunteer at the Farmworker Coordinating Council. Four days a week, at 4:30 AM, he begins his long journey—traveling by train and bus from Fort Lauderdale to Belle Glade—not for a paycheck, not for recognition, but simply because helping others is what he loves to do.
By 9:25 AM, Lamont arrives at the office, ready to start his day. For him, every day is a new day, and the staff patiently guide him through his tasks, just as they did the day before. Yet, no matter how many times he needs direction, he approaches his work with the same enthusiasm and dedication—greeting clients, sorting and packing food, stocking supplies, lifting heavy bags for those in need, and even stepping in as a handyman when necessary.
